A principle component of the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority's mission is the aggressive pursuit of business - specifically, maritime cargoes - to keep the Port of Philadelphia's terminal facilities as busy as possible. Port cargoes and the activities they generate are responsible for thousands of direct and indirect jobs in the Philadelphia area and throughout Pennsylvania.

The Philadelphia Regional Port Authority's Marketing Department works with PRPA's terminal operators to identify and secure new cargoes for the Port of Philadelphia, as well as successfully maintain existing cargo accounts. The Marketing Department works with steamship lines, freight forwarders, brokers, shippers, and other Port stakeholders to increase the flow of cargo through area marine terminals. The Marketing Department also produces brochures, CD-Roms, pamphlets, presentations, and other publicity materials describing the Port and the regional maritime community.
