PRPA Into the Future

The Philadelphia Regional Port Authority is committed to providing the most modernized facilities on the East Coast of the United States. Development at the port continues to meet the increasing demand around the globe for new, improved facilities and capabilities.

Recent Improvements
  • Addition of two Post-Panamax gantry cranes to the Packer Avenue Marine Terminal
  • Access to more reefer plugs
  • Expansion projects will provide 200,000 square feet of dedicated paper warehousing - doubling the capacity of container facilities at the Port
  • An additional 2,500 feet of docking space
  • Improvements to infrastructure and security have resulted in the Port of Philadelphia being designated as a Strategic Military Port, one of the few selected U.S. ports chosen to handle our nation’s military cargoes destined for hotspots around the globe
  • Channel-deepening initiative to increase navigable depth in the Delaware River from 40 feet to 45 feet

Future Projects

Plans are in place to expand both North and South of the current Packer Avenue Marine Terminal. The developments of these ports will more than triple the Port of Philadelphia's total capacity of container facilities.
